Lisa Pollak: Is there anyone you like at the dance?
Christopher Potter: There is.
Lisa: Does she know?
Chris: Yes, she does. We’re kind of dating at the time.
Lisa: So, how’s that going?
Chris: Good, it just started like, 20 minutes into this. So, yeah.
Lisa: You asked a girl to go out during this dance?
Chris: No, um, a girl came to me and asked me out.
Lisa: Ok, let’s go minute by minute. So, where were you when this happened?
Chris: I was in the cafeteria, just got a drink of rootbeer and she walks up to me and, um, asks me to go out.
Really loving this episode of This American Life. It’s perfect that Chris’s “me” sounds like “meh.” Love that it was a middle schooler’s idea to do the story. Plus, the kid’s voice who says, “You don’t hear things about ‘middle school sweethearts’” is a voice that’s too good to be true.
